Upon waking this Holy Saturday, I began to meditate on what was going on this day with Our Lord Jesus Christ—knowing that the Blessed Sacrament was no longer present in the Church Tabernacle. By this action, it represented Jesus was in the tomb. The Creed we say indicates that Jesus “suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell!” Hell, in this sense, a place where the Beatific Vision was absent, a waiting place for those who awaited the gates of Heaven to open, that they will march with Jesus Christ through those gates with Jesus leading them.
Think: How happy they must have been, finally, Jesus fulfilled the reason for His becoming our God-Man; to die that God the Father agreed to be appeased by the Sacrifice of His Son, the Second Person of the Trinity.
“It is finished.”
Yes, the souls Jesus left behind, some in doubt, others His enemies were proud of their deed, others still confused and afraid. However, the souls in Limbo were joyful and filled to the brim with happiness.
Today we know the end of the story, we too should see this day as joyful, since the gates of Heaven are NOW opened for all. All who desire to spend their eternity with God, all who keep His Commandments and all who seek His One, Holy, Apostolic, Catholic Church founded by Jesus or have a desire to find it. Seek, and you shall find!
